Guana Bay

Guana Bay is blessed with a long, wide beach with excellent sand and great views towards neighboring St. Barth. Although only a short distance from Philipsburg, the beach is little known and therefore very quiet. It faces the Atlantic Ocean, same side as Orient Bay, but without the beach bars and restaurants. At times, some stronger surf can challenge less experienced swimmers.

Great Location on the Ocean!
The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The room was very spacious and very clean. The location is right on the Ocean with nice breeze most days. The grounds were very nicely trimmed and the pool was excellent. A car is highly recommended even though Philipsburg is very close. The use of the beach is limited because of the rough sea and undertow. There are other excellent beaches to visit on the island. There is construction next door and behind so the back road is a little rough. Stayed November 2016, traveled as a couple

I can be a big help here, because I have stayed in several of the units and I now live in Guana Bay, overlooking the units. The first thing you need to know is that Geo Group operates just two or three (I think) units in this complex, which is otherwise a small condo complex of about 14 units. Other than the few units operated by Geo, the rest of the units are primarily owned by Americans and Canadians who use them as vacation homes and rent them out to vacationers when they are not in use. Villa Alicia is by far the most luxurious of the units; it was extensively renovated just two years ago with exceptional taste. Villa Marlene (Villa Star) is the runner-up. Both have great views, great seabreezes, and lovely interiors. Villa Leone has a very busy rental history with very happy clientele, but the interior is typical middle-of-the-road Florida condo. The exterior of the complex has recently been refinished and looks just fine. Unlike most condos, these units are freestanding, like cottages, and have windows, views, and fresh air on all four sides. The architecture is a bit odd; the units were designed and built in Canada, then shipped in massive pieces to St Maarten for assembly. Some people love the architecture, some hate it, some could care less because they love the location and the value. Regarding location, it's pros and cons, like everywhere else. Guana Bay faces into the tradewinds and gets wonderful seabreezes 24/7, October through early August. By far the best breezes on the island. You will never need air conditioning. Guana Bay, being less of a touristy area, is much quieter and safer than most of the tourism hubs; there is very little crime. Guana Bay beach is a very high-surf beach, October through mid August. Great for surfing and boogie boarding, not great for the faint of heart. But the view of the surf and the sound of the waves crashing (you will hear the surf vividly from your unit) is just lovely and breathtaking. If you don't mind a very short drive to any number of calmer beaches, coming home to the sound of the pounding surf, enjoying it's majesty, and falling asleep to it's rhythm can be far more rewarding and a nice change from renting something directly on a calm beach where you hear nothing at night. It really is refreshing and beautiful to behold. The pool enjoys an ocean view and is well maintained. Guana Bay has no restaurants or shops, so some consider it inconvenient. However, it is about equi-distant between Orient and Simpson Bay (less than 15 minutes each), and also between Grande Case and Maho (less than 20 minutes each). For that reason, all of the island's high-points feel like they are part of your domain, provided you consider 15 to 20 minutes acceptable (when I lived in Connecticut, nothing was within 15 minutes!). There are some great restaurants within 5 minutes or less, such as Chesterfield's for when you don't feel like an evening drive. but overall, Guana Bay's location lends itself to a well-rounded vacation that includes plenty of French and Dutch highlights. I would highly recommend the complex, and especially Villa Alicia or Villa Star for anyone who likes to explore and doesn't want to end up spending most of their vacation in the same one or two areas.

Wonderful holiday at Guana Bay beach villa
I shared a villa at Guana Bay and had the most amazing time. The villa was beautiful, clean, and well maintained. The complex was good - love the pool and the views. This location is not in the main steam of the island's high life, but well within distance to all the hotspots and beaches. I would definitely recommend Villa #6 - Villia Alicia. Excellent!

Tranquil....peaceful, ... and right on the ocean
Guana Bay Beach Villas was a HUGE reason why we enjoyed our St. Maarten vacation. Almost everytime I was in the pool, I was the only person in it. The setting is so tranquil. It's peaceful, not crowded at all and right on the ocean. Please note that on clear days, you have an AMAZING view of St. Baarths.

Beautiful sunrises
This is our second trip to St. Maarten and first time renting at Guana Bay. Very quiet, easy access to a beautiful beach, amazing cross breeze, huge deck, clean pool, loved the second bedroom. The villas are on the beach, you can hear the waves crashing. Beautiful sunrises (our kids were up early!). There were plenty of others renting units, so even though its off the beaten path its not isolated. Upon entering Guana Bay road, cute little convience store to get your most basic needs (i.e. water, beer, ice cream). No traffic traveling to the French side of the island - great pro!

Must visit!
If you are interested in a quiet vacation, fantastic sun rises, the sound of the waves hiding the coral rock, not fighting the crowds for a lounge chair at the pool, then Sint Maartin’s Guana Bay Beach Villas should be added to your list of want to visit destination. You will need a car so that you can visit one or more of the 37 beaches each day, or go on one of the many boat excursions(snorkelling, sunset cruises) or out for a quiet dinner, or just a drive around the island or just relax by the pool. The rooms are big and overlook the ocean.
